Humble Rants 7 May 2014

by Robert Skoglund aka The humble Farmer

Where did I read that religion was encouraged among slaves below the Mason-Dixon Line?

The reasoning was, if you could get your slaves to believe that life on this flyspeck in God's great universe was nothing more than preparation for Eternal Life, they'd put up with a lot of crap. --- Folks who trusted in Jesus would work endless hours for grits and a roof without threatening to rebel.

Singing about the good times to come in the Afterlife was encouraged.

If you get there before I do
Coming for to carry me home
Tell all my friends I'm coming too

Because slaves, being property like cattle, got the finest kind of healthcare from management, I've been unable to think of a modern parallel in this country. Can you?
