Blueberry Cove half marathon heats up

TENANTS HARBOR -- The Blueberry Cove 13.1 foot race in Tenants Harbor has so far attracted 75 runners from across the country, even though this third annual half marathon doesn't take place until August 25.
The race benefits the nonprofit Blueberry Cove children's camp, which operates as part of the University of Maine's Tanglewood 4H Camps and Learning Centers. Deadline for registration, with a limit of 200 runners or walkers, is May 1st. So far, participants are mostly from Maine, although there are runners coming from Pennsylvania, Virginia, California.
One of last year's runners, Meredith Madison, said, "This is the best half marathon I've ever run."
Julia Bachelder wrote on the race's Facebook page, "Psyched to return to this event after missing it last year. This time I've talked my freshman year roommate from college into joining me to battle the hills, take in the views, and enjoy the post race brunch!"
There is a pre-race local-foods dinner with music by the Alehouse String Band, and a blueberry-themed brunch after the race. Overnight cabins are available.
Race director Steve Cartwright said he is encouraged by the early sign-ups and he is looking forward to another happy event for all.
