BATH -- A 4.0 magnitude earthquake, centered about 30 miles west of Portland near Hollis Center, struck Maine at 7:12 p.m. on Tuesday night and was felt throughout New England.

The moderate temblor was initially pegged at 4.5, then 4.6 by the U.S. Geological Survey, before the final seismic readings were announced.

No damage was reported from the quake, but several minor aftershocks were felt by New England residents after the initial event.
