Snowshoe race marks 30th year for Tanglewood

by Steve Cartwright

LINCOLNVILLE — Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center is celebrating 30 years of serving children and their elders, and the first event marking the anniversary is a snowshoe race for all ages and abilities.

The first annual Tanglewood 5k Snowshoe Race is set to start at 1 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center, off of Ducktrap Road, within the eastern part of Camden Hills State Park.

Known for its hiking and cross-country skiing trails, the Tanglewood campus offers a scenic snowshoe course that features some hilly, woodsy terrain and the wild Ducktrap River.

Registration is available online, or on the day of the race. It’s open to anyone age 13 and up. The $25 registration fee includes soup, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.

Children 12 and under can participate in a 500-yard snowshoe dash. Snowshoes will be available for the dash on a first-come, first-served basis.

Information is available on Tanglewood’s web site: http://umaine.edu/tanglewood/ and on Facebook. Questions may be emailed to the race director: jpincince@myfairpoint.net
