'Pinocchio' for one day at Heartwood

Beverly Mann of Belfast takes the stage as Pinocchio, in Heartwood Theater’s original production of "Pinocchio."

NEWCASTLE — A touring company of teacher/performers will bring "Pinocchio" to life again on Dec. 10

Heartwood Goes to School is an educational outreach program touring this show to midcoast schools this fall, from Lincolnville to Jefferson to Bristol. On Dec. 10, at 4 and at 7 p.m., performances will take place in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy.

This hour-long, witty and funny version of the beloved errant puppet tale is delivered commedia dell’arte style by a veteran cast of teacher/performers: Elise Voigt of Whitefield, Millie Santiago and Kevin Kiley of the Boothbay Harbor area, and Beverly Mann of Belfast.

The actors play many characters, helped by an array of costume pieces and props. The original music score composed by Peter Bufano is performed by Cirkestra, a Boston-based band that performs music for big circuses.

The play is suitable for all ages. Heartwood Theater Company's ’s season sponsor, Bath Savings Institution, and season youth sponsor, Damariscotta Hardware, are subsidizing the tour. For a sneak preview, watch the short video on Heartwood’s website at www.heartwoodtheater.org.

Reservations for the Dec. 10 shows are strongly recommended, due to limited seating. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults. For reservations contact boxoffice@heartwoodtheater.org or phone 563-1373.
