GORHAM — Sometimes one musical just isn’t enough. The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) is five hilarious and charming musicals in one, all with the same plot but told through five different musical styles. It will be performed later this month at the University of Southern Maine School of Music.

Musical! is a loving satire of the works of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander & Ebb, with music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart, and book by Rockwell and Bogart.

“I wanted to choose something very different and ridiculously funny for this fall,” says the play's director, Ed Reichert, a faculty member of the USM School of Music.

Reichert sees the show as a unique opportunity for his students to expand their studies. “Parodying five different composers/lyricists so brilliantly in one new revue will provide a wonderful chance to introduce repertoire by these men to the singers,” he says.

Musical! will be performed at 8 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 30 in the USM School of Music’s Corthell Concert Hall, Campus Drive, USM Gorham. Tickets cost $15; $10 seniors/USM employees; $5 students/children. For reservations, call the USM Music Box Office at 780-5555 or visit the box office website at http://www.usm.maine.edu/music/boxoffice.
